Learn to swim
Pirates Little Treasures offers 30 min learn to swim classes to children aged 4 years and older. Using a low student to coach ratio, our coaches will ensure swimmers gain the introductory skills to make them feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it. Swimmers will then progress through 4 levels of basic swimming skills including stroke development and proficiency with other aquatic skills as outlined below:
LEVEL 1
- Enter and exit pool safely
- Blow bubbles
- Submerge face in the water
- Float face down and up
- Streamline push off from wall, face down blowing bubbles, as well as face up on back
- Streamline push off from the wall kicking freestyle and backstroke
- Kick freestyle and backstroke with and without a kick board
LEVEL 2
- Child should be able to dominate all the exercises in the Level 1 class, as well as:
- Streamline push off from the wall kicking freestyle and backstroke with kick board
- Freestyle and backstroke arm pull with and without a kick board
- Recover pool toys from bottom of pool
LEVEL 3
Level 3 is divided into two parts. The first part is done in the 25m pool and second part in the 50m pool.
Part 1 – 25m pool
- Child should be able to carry out all the tasks learnt in Levels 1 and 2, as well as:
- Introduction to the breaststroke kick, pull and breathing
- Diving into pool from a sitting position on the pool deck
- Jumping into the pool feet first from the pool deck
- Dolphin kick without a kick board
- Tread water for between 30 seconds and one minute
- Kick correctly for 25m in free kick, back kick and breast kick
- Swim 25m freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke
part 2 – 50m pool
- Do all the above in the 50m pool
Once swimmers have successfully accomplished the above, they will complete an assessment prior to being invited to join the Beginners’ group in the
50m pool.
